Encryption is the only way to adequately secure your data in the cloud. There have been many issues with encryption in the past that have deterred its adoption: complexity in implementing and administration are two of the greatest inhibitors. At Laconic Security, we have addressed these and other cryptographic issues in the development of our Aegis product. Beyond seamless integration into your desktop, we have designed Aegis to eliminate an issue with current cloud encryption solutions today - something we call the Cloud Gap.

Most cloud encryption solutions today utilize SSL or IPsec to encrypt data in transit. These solutions work great for their designed purpose: securing your data in transit. Cloud computing turns the traditional IT model inside out: the end point on your secure transit is no longer in a trusted location, it is in the cloud. To try and address this concern, cloud providers recommend additionally encrypting your data at rest in the cloud. A great idea, but you now have a Cloud Gap where your data is in plain text between the termination of your data in transit encryption solution and your data at rest encryption solution. Aegis, through the use of strong end-to-end asymmetric encryption, removes the Cloud Gap and its associated risks.
